Trade Requirements
The following requirements are needed to qualify for trade certification:
- 1,400 hours of theory and practical time at Delmar.
- 1,400 hours of apprenticeship time in a salon.
Delmar offers assistance in placing our graduates with salons.
Evaluation Process
Students are evaluated throughout each semester and are encouraged to perfect their skills. Our instructors have developed cognitive learning strategies to ensure all learner types receive the best grades possible for their final report.
To receive a Delmar Diploma, you will need to:
- Complete 1,400 hours and receive a passing grade of 70% in theory and practical requirements.
To receive a Delmar Honors Diploma, you will need to:
- Complete 1,400 hours and receive a final grade of 85% in theory and practical requirements.
- Have an exemplary record in attendance and interpersonal communication skills.
To qualify for trade licensing, you will need to:
- Complete 1,400 hours at Delmar and 1,400 hours apprenticeship in a salon.
- Receive a Delmar diploma; passing grade of 70% in theory and practical requirements.
- Receive a passing grade of 70% in the Alberta Hairstylist Trade examinations; theory and practical requirements.
Timeframe Options for Trade Examinations
After completing the required 1,400 hours; recipients of a Delmar Diploma may immediately challenge the government exams or complete their salon apprenticeship hours first before challenging the government exams.
