Hairstyling Pre-Employment

Hairstyling Pre-Employment Program

The pre-employment program is a 500 hour program designed for those that wish to move from their current career to hairstyling by attending school in the evening.  The program is designed so that a person can keep their daytime job while learning hairstyling.  Training in the pre-employment program is equivalent to the first period technical training portion of the regular apprenticeship program.   The program covers Theory and Practical sessions in the study of:

-Apprenticeship Industry Training
-Provincial Regulations
-Women’s and Men’s Design Haircutting
-Hairstyling Wet and Dry
-Long Hair Styling/Upstyles
-Texture Services/ Basic and Design
-Hair Coloring/ Basic and Design
-Multi-Cultural Styling

Program:  Monday-Friday from 4:30 to 8:30 pm for a period of six months.  Upon completion of the training in school, an apprenticeship in the salon of 3,000 hours is mandatory.  The total length with practical in the salon is 3,500 hours.

You have two options to complete the program:
1.  As stated above, or,

2. You can take the 2nd period of the apprenticeship technical training (10 weeks/350 hrs.).  By completing this route, the apprenticeship in the hair salon will be reduced to 2,650 hrs.
In our pre employment program, students receive basic training in all the aspects of hair design necessary for employment in a hair salon.  The total cost is $5,704.00 tuition, textbooks and kit.  An additional $150.00 will be collected by Delmar on the student’s behalf and forwarded for the
Provincial exam.

The enrolment requirements are on our website and include the personal interview, the application form and application fee of $150.00, two character reference forms, and transcripts from grade 12.  If the transcripts are not available, then the student will be required to take the Delmar entrance exam.

Payment Plan:
There is a payment plan available - $150.00 at registration, $2,702.00 at the beginning of class, $1,426.00 at the 10th week and the final $1,426.00 at the 20th week.  All payments are to be made by cash or bank draft.

Additionally, there is a grant available through "Alberta Pre-Apprenticeship Scholarships" of $1000, based on marks and employer recommendation and a short description about themselves.  Deadline to apply for this is June 30th and recipients are notified by the fall.

We can help walk you through the student financing application, so that you leave Delmar (after your tour) with a pending loan application with Alberta Student Finance.  Upon completion, there are several thousand dollars available as grants to each graduate.

I hope this helps, and please call 403-264-8055 for a tour or interview.   You can also visit www.delmarcollege.com for more information on the
